We all know that excessive sunlight is harmful to eyes due to the ultraviolet rays that are present in it. Other than UV rays, another hazard that sunlight brings to us is glare. This can be described as excessive light caused by sunlight which gets propagated from reflective surfaces like water and ice. Polarized sunglasses are designed to reduce the glare to tolerable levels which eliminates the blinding effect of the sun's rays. These sunglasses are useful for outdoor activities, especially in water sports where a water surface is exposed to direct sunlight. Polarized sunglasses come with or without vision correction. The sunglasses with vision correction can be polarized bifocal sunglasses or they can have progressive lenses for those suffering from Presbyopia. For a person whose eyes are sensitive to sunlight, photochromic polarized sunglasses are the best choice. However, these sunglasses have their limitations. Polarized sunglasses are not suitable for skiers who are skiing downhill as they may not be able to see ice reflecting off surfaces clearly which can be dangerous. Similarly, pilots may not be able to see the LCD displays properly on the aircraft instrument panels. However, despite their limitations, polarized sunglasses are very popular and widely used by people worldwide due to the countless advantages that they present.
